Eight more patients dead as Kenya records 538 new COVID-19 cases

Eight more patients have succumbed to COVID-19 in Kenya raising the total number of fatalities recorded since the outbreak of the disease in the country to 399.

In the daily COVID-19 briefing, Health Ministry CAS Dr. Rashid Aman on Thursday announced that six out of the eight patients who succumbed had underlying conditions.

At the same time, the caseload in the country continued to rise with 538 more cases being recorded after testing of 6,195 samples in the last 24 hours.

The new cases include 516 Kenyans and 22 foreigners and are aged between 2-85 years.

Nairobi continues to lead in the distribution of cases per counties recording 277 cases followed by Kiambu with 72.

Others are Kajiado (55), Nakuru (25), Nyeri (20), Muranga (15), Machakos (9), Busia (8), Mombasa (7), Migori (7), Mandera (6), Laikipia (6), Bomet (6), Meru (3), Narok (3), Kisii (3) and Trans Nzoia (3).

Tharaka Nithi, Uasin Gishu and Makueni had two cases each while Wajir, Samburu, Kwale, Kisumu, Kericho and Baringo one case each.

Some 514 more people have recovered from the virus; 431 of them from the home-based care program and 83 from hospitals. This now brings the total number of recoveries to 10,444.

So far the country has conducted a total of 335,318 tests.
