Eight security officers killed in Wajir Al Shabaab attack

Eight security personnel were killed on Sunday following an Al Shabaab attack in Wajir County.

Police said the officers died after the vehicle they were travelling in ran over an improvised explosive device in Bojigaras area at around 2.30pm.

The victims included five administration police officers and three police reservists. One of the victims died while being rushed to hospital.

Eye witnesses said the militants opened fire at the injured officers killing the officers before escaping towards the Somalia border.

A team of security officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) and Administration Police were deployed to track down the militants suspected to be hiding in the village.
