Eight Sunshine High School students arraigned over attempted arson

Eight students from Sunshine School in Lang’ata were today (Monday) arraigned in court and charged with attempted arson.

It is alleged that on July 17, 2016 within Lang’ata in Nairobi the eight attempted to set ablaze one of the school’s dormitories.

The students through their advocate have objected to taking a plea on the basis that the school is not a complainant in the matter hence the issue can be settled outside court.

The Republic, which is the complainant in the matter, has however objected to an outside settlement of the matter on the basis that they should face full force of the law so as to become upright citizens.

Children Division Chief Magistrate Lucy Gitari will in the afternoon make a ruling whether the students will plead to the charges facing them or allow the matter to be settled outside court.
