Elderly decry corruption, nepotism in disbursement of county cash

A section of elderly people from Migori County have accused the Elderly Funds board of corruption and nepotism.

Speaking to the media, the elders said the process of disbursing funds was terribly flawed and many old people in the county were suffering.

Joseph Owango Oguda, 80, complained that said he has applied for help several times but his efforts have been futile.

“It is unfair that those who benefit from the board are from wealthy families as they are related to fund managers. The needy, like me, are neglected,” lamented Owango.

He added that that most beneficiaries are forced to give kickbacks to individuals on the selection committee.

His sentiment was echoed by Jane Adongo, 70, who blamed the local administrators of being the engineers of the flawed selection process.

“The elderly want the government to put in place proper selection mechanisms so that the fund can benefit the needy,” urged Adongo.
