Garissa elders accuse Jubilee of interfering with KANU nominations

A section of Kenya African National Union (KANU) in Garissa County have expressed fear that the Jubilee Party (JP) is planning to interfere with the independence party’s primaries in the coming nomination exercise scheduled for April 5.

The leaders are accusing JP of sponsoring what they term as ‘political moles’ to join KANU in the North Eastern region and run for the party’s ticket at the expense of genuine KANU Party loyalists who have stood with the party throughout.

Led by Abdi Sirat and Ibrahim Suleiman, the elders are alleging that a senior JP politician has been sent to the North Eastern region to poach strong KANU candidates out of the party, promising them big money.

“Jubilee is trying so much to destabilise KANU in this region; they brought a political reject recently to the party. He is presenting himself as a KANU member when that is not the truth,” said Abdi Sirat.

The leaders now want the KANU party officials to investigate the issue so as to ensure that the party remains strong in the region.

According to them, bringing unpopular candidates to KANU could jeopardise the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the coming August Polls.

“We are urging the party headquarters to investigate this individual who is known to have criminal records,” said Ibrahim Suleiman.
