Elders condemn Senator Kivuti, MP Mbarire altercation

A section of Council of Elders and political leaders from Embu County have condemned chaos that erupted on Sunday, September 18 after Senator Lenny Kivuti and Runyejes MP Cecily Mbarire clashed over who is fit to be the next Embu Governor.

The Embu Elders Forum and Nyangi Ndiiriri Council of Elders have come out strongly castigating the leaders for fueling chaos among the electorate and creating divisions among the communities living in Embu County.

Led by John Gicangi, the elders want all the leaders to popularize their bids for the gubernatorial seat in a peaceful manner and preach peace among all the Embu and Mbeere communities.

Gicangi said that they will rally all the residents of Embu County against leaders who engage in acts of violence and divisions adding that they will not allow such leaders to continue dividing the Mbeere and Embu people.

He also expressed concerns over some leaders who are taking advantage of jobless youth and buying them alcohol so that they can disrupt political meetings.

Nyangi Ndiiriri Council of Elders Chairman, Andrew Ireri, noted that Embu County held peaceful election in 2013 but wrangles started between leaders following the impeachment of Governor Martin Wambora and residents must shun leaders who are so determined to divide the Embu people again.

He said that they will roll out a campaign to educate the residents, during this electioneering period, on the importance of making right decisions in order to ensure development in the region.

Senator Kivuti has distanced himself from the violence that erupted claiming that MP Mbarire had hired youth to disrupt the funds drive.

Kivuti termed as unfortunate saying that some leaders in Embu are trying to create divisions among Aembu and Ambeere communities calling on all the political leaders to unite all the residents just as the President and his deputy are doing to unite all Kenyans.
