Elders in Embu ask President Uhuru to sanction research into herbal coronavirus cure

Embu County Council of elders has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to sanction medical experts and scientist for research in rural Kenyan to find herbs and condiments that can cure the new coronavirus.

Led by Nyangi ya Ndiriri elders Cultural Group chairman Andrew Ireri, the elders said that the coronavirus is still spreading fast with no hope for definitive cure in sight.

Ireri noted that all the 47 counties that make Kenya have their own unique each culture and herbs which the experts can export to find the elusive coronavirus cure.

Further, he noted that it was time for the government to traverse the countryside in search of a cure instead of waiting for the West to develop a cure or a vaccine.

“Kenya has some world-class laboratories and if the president can sanction experts to seek a herbal cure with consultation with elders, maybe we could get the cure for this pandemic,” Ireri said.

He added that since the times of yore, elders have been treating sicknesses of all kinds ranging from anthrax to leprosy using locally available herbs.

So far, scientists across the globe are burning the midnight oil in the rush to discover a vaccine for the virus that has killed 248,445 people so far and devastated world economies.

The UK just recently started clinical trials on a possible vaccine developed by researchers from the Oxford University.

However, the world over there still not definite cure for the virus with more than 100 teams in the globe working towards developing a vaccine.
