Elders threaten to curse cattle rustlers

Elders from Saptet sub-location in Kuresoi have threatened to carry out a cursing ceremony if cattle rustlers who have been stealing their livestock are not arrested or they do not present themselves to authorities.

Speaking after a day long meeting with at the village, the locals said that cattle theft has led to massive loss of their source of livelihood.

The elders said that cattle rustling is carried out by a well-coordinated racket that even transports the livestock using lorries.

They said that the police have not yet submitted to them any progress report of their investigation into the theft which they fear may spread to other parts of the region if the culprits are not apprehended and punished.

“This menace of cattle theft has left us very discouraged, we have searched nearly everywhere but nothing is forthcoming,” said one of the elders, Stephen Koech.
