Elders Urge Kalenjin Leaders to End Wrangles

Speaking to journalists at a Kericho hotel, the elders said wrangles in the region had brought shame and that as elders they could not afford to watch as things go wrong.

The elders added that there are more important issues than politics, including the plight of maize, tea and sugarcane farmers and resettlement of Mau evictees that the politicians should deal with.

Bishop Leleito further urged leaders to forget their differences and address the challenges facing the community because a resolution had been arrived at by the elders towards uniting the region.

The leaders described as un-African for men to violate the rights of the very women whom they should defend.

COMPENSATE GENUINE PEOPLE

On matters of land, Mr Leleito urged the government to be accurate while providing compensation to rightful and genuine people.

The council thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for his key address to the nation about corruption, terming it a good move towards healing the nation.

The elders decried the environmental destruction, especially on the sacred Londiani Forest Hills, urging for immediate action to stop the vice.

They further promised that Kipsigis elders would lead a tree-planting exercise in destructed Mau Forest.

Council leaders who were at the media briefing included Kimutai Chelule Vice secretary, Geoffrey Ng’etich and Joannah Rono.
