Eldoret church puts 2017 aspirants under oath

Over 300 political aspirants who will contest in next year’s poll from the North Rift region were put under oath by the Seventh Day Adventist church.

Speaking at a church service in Kapsoya, Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Meli said the oath was vital in guiding the aspirants to abide by the rule of the law and serve the electorate objectively.

His sentiments were echoed by the greater Rift Valley conference pastor, Christopher Misoi, who urged the aspirants to exercise their duty in fighting corruption, which is on the rise in the country.

“Most politicians have become untrustworthy,” he said.

On his part, former Agriculture CS Felix Kosgey noted that there many challenges facing the country, noting that chief among them is corruption.

Kosgei, who intends to vie for the Nandi governor seat, said that this was a vital move by the church as it would ensure elected leaders serve the people.
