Eldoret lawyer Simon Lilan accuses police of failure to protect him

Eldoret-based lawyer Simon Lilan who had allegedly gone missing after his attempts to halt the Late Mark Too’s burial collapsed has accused the police of failing to offer him protection.

Addressing press in Eldoret, Mr Lilan said although he sought help from police Inspector General Joseph Boinnet he never got any attention from the police and he decided to go into hiding.

Lilan said that he does not fear arrest since he had already reported to the police that he had received threats from unknown people.

“Before the police arrest me they should arrest themselves for obstructing the operation of the court, for obstructing justice, for obstructing the service of court orders,” he said.

Mr Lilan went missing after an Eldoret court vacated orders he had filed to stop the burial of prominent politician Mark Too.

He had argued that another post mortem should be conducted dismissing the one done by pathologists at Lee Funeral Home, which indicated that Mark Too had died of a heart attack.

“I am doing this as a Kenyan. I am doing it because the constitution requires me to do that. If the government is reluctant to tell Kenyans what happened to Mark Too I will  ensure that Kenyans know,” he said on Monday.

Lilan resurfaced on Friday evening in Nairobi after surrendering to LSK offices.

He said he has acquired protection from an embassy in Nairobi.
