Eldoret residents want Prof Kosgei appointed Moi varsity VC

Residents of Eldoret Town took to the streets to protest Prof Laban Ayiro’s taking over as the Vice Chancellor of Moi University.

The demonstrators claimed to be in possession of the outcomes of interviews conducted adding that Prof Isaac  Kosgei emerged top, and should have been appointed instead.

“We, the residents of Uasin Gishu and residents of Eldoret Town, are not demonstrating to support tribalism or ethnicity, what we are crying for is merit in this country,” said the demonstrators.

The protests took places as Uasin Gishu Governor, Jackson Mandogo, his Elyeyo Marakwet counterpart, Alex Tolgos, and Kapseret MP, Oscar Sudi, appeared at the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters to record statements as directed by Interior CS, Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery.

Nkaissery ordered the three to record statements regarding their utterances about the appointment of Moi University’s Vice Chancellor.

The leaders had previously threatened to disruption graduation at the university if the appointment of Prof Ayiro was not reversed.

Governor Mandago accused journalists of misquoting them and exaggerating his remarks.

Mandago said that they decided to heed to Nkaissery’s order in order to put forward the truth regarding the appointment

The demonstrators in Eldoret vowed not to let their leaders be intimidated.
