Eldoret town ‘cow owners’ to be prosecuted

Uasin Gishu County Assembly has passed a motion authorising the county government through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock Development and Fisheries to immediately arrest and prosecute animal owners that have allowed them to roam within Eldoret town.

Moving the motion, nominated MCA representing people with disabilities, Flora Bartera, said the animals roaming within Eldoret town should be banned completely since it endangers motorists and residents.

“The public has raised complaints citing that in most cases motorists have bumped on to the animals leading to accidents. Also, their presence in the Central Business District does not create conducive environment for visitors,” she said.

Mois’ Bridge MCA, Daniel Sanga, seconded the motion stating that both the owners and the county government should take charge of the sanity of the CBD and estates.

They accused the county authorities of failing to implement a policy passed earlier on to curb cases of roaming animals in the town.

Among the animals that the MCAs cited as roaming within the CBD of Eldoret include the donkeys, cows and dogs.
