Elect leaders based on capability, Oduol tells Siaya County residents

Siaya gubernatorial aspirant William Oduol has dismissed claims that he wants to divide votes in Alego/Usonga constituency to the advantage a candidate from outside the region.

There have been concerns that Mr Oduol who together with Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga come from Alego/Usonga Constituency, intends to divide the region’s votes to favour other gubernatorial candidates, a claim he has refuted.

Mr Oduol downplayed the rumours that his intention was to ensure that the governor’s seat is removed from Alego/Usonga, saying such arguments are uncalled for.

He argues that the people of Alego/Usonga should know that he is the one who made the seat to go to Alego when he insisted on being in the ballot after all other contenders including Governor Rasanga has backed off in favour of Dr Oburu Oginga in 2013.

The businessman stated that he is not running for the seat as a person from Alego/Usonga Constituency but a son of Siaya County who would want to transform the region’s socio-economic growth.

Mr Oduol, who spoke to Radio Ramogi, stated that if elected governor he would work for all residents of Siaya County irrespective of the constituency where someone comes from because the gubernatorial seat belongs to the entire county and not a specific part of the county.

He has therefore called on the people of Siaya County to ensure they elected leaders based on their capability to offer good leadership and not based on the region from which they come.

Siaya gubernatorial seat has so far attracted four people including Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo who hails from Rarieda, former PS Eng Carey Orege from Bondo, businessman William Oduol and the incumbent Cornel Rasanga who both come from Alego/Usonga constituency.
