Election Boss Grilled By Anti Graft Body

Hassan and Chirchir will be appearing before the anti-graft body where they will answer questions on the controversial scandal that has seen two players from the United Kingdom jailed.

The two have been accused of playing a part in the scandal by receiving bribes in order to award a tender to Smith and Ouzman to print election papers.

Mr. Hassan will appear before the anti-graft body on Thursday while Mr. Chirchir, a former commissioner of the defunct Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC), will be appearing on Friday.

The two together with other officials of IEBC and the defunct IIEC are accused of receiving bribes to a tune of Ksh 50 million between October 1st, 2008 and December 31st, 2010.

Former IEBC Chief Executive Officer James Oswago and forme Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) boss Paul Wasanga, who has been accused of receiving bribes to award the same company tender to print examination certificates, have also been summoned by EACC.

Last week, a UK court jailed two directors of Smith and Ouzman after they were found guilty of paying bribes to elections officials to be awarded printing tenders.
