Election observers call for free, fair elections

The Head of the African Union Election Observation Mission to Kenya, former South African President, Thabo Mbeki, has called for resolution of all disputes raised by election stakeholders in the August 8 election.

Mbeki says he has already met with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman, Wafula Chebukati, who has assured his team that all issues raised especially by election stakeholders will be resolved before the elections including the publication of the voters register.

Speaking here in Nairobi, Mbeki said his team has met both President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga in a bid to ensure all of them are satisfied with preparations for the August 8 elections.

Mbeki, however, says Uhuru was outright that he would accept the outcome of the General Election, Raila said he’ll only accept the outcome if the election is free, fair and credible.
