Election still on with or without you, Uhuru tells Raila

President Uhuru Kenyatta has said that the repeat presidential election slated for October 26 is still on despite National Super Alliance presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, announcing withdrawal of his candidature on Tuesday.

Speaking at a Jubilee rally in Voi in Taita Taveta County,  President Kenyatta  faulted Raila for pulling out of the race  saying that the opposition leader has “wasted taxpayers’ funds.”

“I am now hearing that he has withdrawn from the presidential race after taking us in circles when Ksh12 billion has been allocated for preparations of the repeat election. It his democratic right not to participate in the election but we want to tell him we are proceeding to the people who have the sovereign right to elect the leader of their choice,” President Kenyatta said.

The Head of State maintained that he won the August 8 election, saying NASA’s demands to IEBC as unwarranted.

“We are going back to the ballot knowing very well we won the presidential election but we are doing it to ensure that peace prevails in the country,” the President assured.

This comes after NASA’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga opted out of the presidential race citing lack of willingness by the electoral commission to undertake any changes to its operations and personnel to ensure that the “illegalities and irregularities” that led to the invalidation of the 8th August, 2008 do not happen again.
