Embassava licence reinstated, matatu strike called off

A nationwide strike that had been called by the Public Service vehicle (PSV) operators slated to start Wednesday has now been called off.

This is after the matatu operators reached an agreement with the transport Principal Secretary Eng John Mosonik on how to improve relations between the transport ministry and the PSV operators in future.

Mosonik in the meeting also announced that the license of Embassava Savings And Credit Co-operative (SACCO) buses that had been suspended after one of its buses was involved in an accident has been lifted.

The two sides also agreed that SACCOS will not be suspended in a blanket manner while PSV operators will now have to come up with a mechanism that will ensure the safety of commuters  and discipline within SACCOS.

Speaking after the meeting, Matatu Owners Association chair Simon Kimutai and Matatu Welfare Association chair Dickson Mbugua added that routes will now be redefined, with 14 seater  matatus  restricted to long distance travel only while the cash lite system framework will  be created for operation within two weeks.
