Embattled KEBS boss Charles Ongwae released on bail

Embattled Charles Ongwae, the Kenya Bureau of Standards Managing Director, has been released from remand prison.

Ongwae paid Ksh.2million cash bail and deposited sureity set by the trial court.

Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot required that Mr. Ongwae and each of his co-accused deposit cash bail for their temporary release.

Ongwae and Martin Nyakiamo, the KEBS Coast Regional Director, were released after complying with the bail terms.

The KEBS officials were charged with attempted murder over the importation of sub-standard goods into the country.

They were freed on a bond of Ksh.10million and Ksh.3 million sureity each.

On the second charge of importation of fake import standardization mark (ISM) stickers, they were each freed on a Ksh.5million bond and a sureity of a similar amount.

Cash bail was set at Ksh.3 million. The pre-trial date has been set for July 2, 2018.
