Embu County Assembly adjourns sessions to hold a retreat

The Embu County Assembly has adjourned its sessions to allow Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to hold a five-day retreat in Nairobi.

Speaking during a sitting that lasted for 35 minutes, the Assembly’s Majority Leader Andrew Mbithii said the adjournment was important to allow members hold consultative sessions on in-house issues.

Nominated MCA Rosemary Manunga supported the move saying the retreat will help members make better decisions on important matters such as passing the County Fiscal Strategy Paper.

“I look forward to the retreat, it is important as it will enable me serve my people better. It will give me ample time to scrutinize the County Fiscal Strategy Paper before we start drafting the budget,” Runyenjes Central MCA Steve Simba said.

Simba, however, called for proper implementation of the 2015/2016 Financial Budget by the county, adding that the process of making a new budget for the next financial year will start soon.

The adjournment comes barely a week after the County Assembly resumed sittings after a three-week break. It had taken a break after failing to pass a motion to constitute the Assembly Rules, Privileges and Business Committee.
