Embu County Assembly debate interrupted over explosion fears

Business at the County Assembly of Embu was momentarily interrupted after Gaturi South Member County of Assembly (MCA) John Mwangi claimed the legislative chamber was on the verge of explosion following shoddy wiring of air conditioning fans in the chamber.

The MCA, who is an engineer, brought this to the attention of the house following a bizarre buzzing in the chambers emanating from the air fans. He declared that the situation poses a danger to the lives of the Members of County Assembly during their deliberations.

His revelations caused tension in the house after he sensationally claimed that the entire Embu County could lose its grassroots’ leadership from a resultant electrical explosion due to cheap wearing that did not take to account basic tenets of electrical engineering.  He called on a complete overhaul of the entire wiring.

His sentiments got the attention of Speaker Kariuki Mate who immediately ordered the Sergeant-At-Arms to switch off the rotary fans, declaring that no Ward Rep should sit in the assembly chambers while fearing for their lives due to electrical faults.

The Speaker, however, amused the house when he declared that he had no power to give orders to mechanical and electric devices.

Normal business resumed later on as Mr Mwangi urged his counterparts to carry on with their legislative debates.
