Embu County Bans Food Hawking Over Cholera Fears

Public Health Officer Jackson Njeru said that the move is aimed at stopping the spread of the disease in the county after several cases were reported in neighbouring counties.

Njeru said that the office will carry out a crackdown on food vendors in the county to make sure there is no hawking since it contributes in the spread of the cholera.

In the same breath, the public office has also banned the sell of alcohol in Wine and Spirits stores saying those who contravene the order will have their licences revoked.

He said that there are several unlicensed Wine and Spirits outlets operating in the town noting that they could be selling illicit liquor which could lead to deaths.

Njeru was speaking at his office after the launch of the Malezi Bora Week where mothers and children below the age of five are given accelerated health services.

He called on mothers within Embu County to take advantage of the two-week programme by visiting public health facilities and learning how to keep their children healthy.
