Embu County launches measles vaccination campaign

The Ministry of Health in Embu County has embarked on a Measles campaign aimed at ensuring that majority of children, who are at a risk of contracting the disease, are immunized.

The campaign, which targets children between the age of 9 months to 15 years, is set to kick off on Monday 16th and end on Friday 24th May, with health workers visiting homes, schools, market places, and churches  in order to reach out to as many children as possible.

A health promoter in Embu County, Pauline Nginyo, observed that majority of the children have not been immunized and that this makes them susceptible to the disease.

Nginyo called upon parents to cooperate and avail their children for vaccination cautioning that the disease can lead to death if not prevented.

The campaign will also ensure measles rubella vaccine replace old measles vaccine, which targeted small children only. Pregnant women who contract rubella can easily miscarry or suffer congenital malformations.
