Embu County to reintroduce school milk program

The County Government of Embu has finalised plans to reintroduce the school milk program for Early Childhood Educations (ECD) pupils across the county.

Embu Governor Martin Wambora led education stakeholders in the county to launch the program in a ceremony at Embu Stadium.

Wambora announced that the county has set aside Ksh15 million to run the program for the first two months after schools open for the second term.

County Deputy Governor Dorothy Nditi praised the county assembly for whole-heartedly passing the budget saying the program will go a long way in improving children’s nutrition health and also boosting dairy farmers in the county.

The program is targeted to benefit more than 17,000 pupils enrolled in ECDE centres across the county.

County assembly finance committee chairman, Joseph Mwaniki, disclosed that the program has been allocated Ksh40 million in the coming financial year to feed the children three times a week.

Governor Wambora said that his government is looking to extending the program to lower primary school pupils by 2019.

He expressed optimism that county will get enough funds to sustain the program.
