Embu couple that dated using only text messages, exchanges vows in silence

An Embu couple that dated through text messages exchanged wedding vows over the weekend.

Boniface Muchangi, 27, and Christine Wawira, 26, met three years ago during a church function.

Their friendship developed and as time went by, it developed into a romantic relationship.

They dated for one year and a half then decided they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.

They sought endorsement from the church and they were granted their wish.

Festus Murithi, a church representative, said they were thrilled when the couple decided to make their union official.

On Sunday, surrounded with a bridal party that resounded with them, Boniface and Christine wedded.

The ceremony at the Good News Seventh Day Adventist Church in Majengo was presided over by a pastor who also has hearing impairment.

The unique ceremony attracted a huge crowd who followed proceedings with the help of an interpreter.

The couple then exchange vows using sign language.

Through the interpreter, the bride and groom thanked the Deaf Mission Fellowship Church and wellwishers for support as they prepared for their wedding day.

Gerald Odhiambo a church elder, also urged Kenyans to help people with disabilities to achieve their dreams and not look down at them.
