Embu gets first ever Children Traffic Park in the country

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has operationalized a 50-million Children Traffic Park in Embu County in a bid to inculcate road safety at early age and reduce road accidents.

Speaking to the press, the Director of KURA, Lucy Mathenge, said that the move will see each county establish such a facility to enable children in Kenya to start learning road safety and traffic rules at an early age so as to minimize accidents on the Kenyan roads.

“As an authority, we recognize that human and social economy losses incurred in road carnages seriously undermines the future economy of the country,” said Mathenge.

Mathenge has called upon school administrations to emulate them and start road safety clubs in schools stating that there are six other facilities across the country aimed at teaching the children the need to have safety road rules with well defined curriculum.

On his part, Embu Governor Martin Wambora, said that the facility will be helpful to a number of road users including boda boda riders and matatu operators who will have a platform to refresh their driving skills.

“Most adults are not familiar with road safety and with such an intentional standard facility within our reach, we ought to utilize it maximally,” said Wambora.

Wambora has also promised to work closely with KURA in cutting down the rate of accidents and loss of life on roads.
