Embu leaders want more government appointments

Political leaders from Embu County have called out the Jubilee administration citing discrimination and marginalization in government appointments.

Led by Manyatta MP John Muchiri, the leaders said they were angered by the manner in which the Jubilee government had marginalized Embu when it comes to senior government positions as well as major government projects.

Speaking during a fundraiser at St Angels Kanyuiri High School in Mbeere North, the leaders claimed that they were used as voting machines by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 and 2017 elections yet when the national cake is being shared, the Embu community is ignored.

Muchiri was flanked by Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga, Woman Representative Jane Wanjuki, MPs Muriuki Njagagua (Mbeere North), Geoffrey King’ang’i (Mbeere South) and Eric Muchangi (Runyenjes).

The Manyatta legislator said they are tired of being reminded that Embu was rewarded with the National Assembly Speaker position held by Justin Muturi, adding that they want more positions just like other communities.

He further added that they were ready to be termed as rebels as they will not sit back and watch the government neglect the Embu people.

“We are in this government by shareholding. It is not fair that some communities have over three representatives in government. This is Uhuru’s last term, we must be catered for. If they want to call us rebels, it is fine, even Kenyatta was also branded a rebel,” said Muchiri.

Runyenjes MP Eric Muchangi said the Embu community is underrepresented in government, adding that the President and his deputy must ensure that Embu people are represented in government.

“We want to appeal to the rest of the country, and to our leaders in government, to support the Embu community so that we can also feel part and parcel of this government. Because if we’re going to lose those big people in government one by one, then it means in future we will not share the national cake as it should,” said the MP.

On his part, Mbeere South MP Geoffrey King’ang’i claimed that during Jubilee’s first term, the Embu community had more positions in government than in the current regime.
