Embu: Man, 22, jailed for threatening grandmother over missing I.D card

A 22-year-old man from Mikimbi village, Embu County, will serve six months in jail or pay a fine of Ksh.20, 000 for chasing his grandmother around the compound with a stick while demanding to know the whereabouts of his identity card.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Jean Ndengeri, Lenny Mugendi Nyaga pleaded guilty to the offence.

The accused was charged that on December 21, 2018, he threatened to inflict injuries on his 60-year-old grandmother – Susan Kanini – thus causing breach of peace.

He was said to have arrived at his grandmother’s compound around 7pm before demanding to where his items were but she (granny) ignored him.

The court heard that he then walked out and returned with a stick which he used to confront the granny, forcing her to run out of the house while screaming for help.

The granny, luckily, managed to get to her daughter’s home after which they reported the matter at Manyatta Police Station. He was later arrested and arraigned in court.

In his defense, the accused told the magistrate that he had looked all over his house for his identity card and, upon enquiring from his grandmother, she ignored him which resulted in his drastic reaction.

While delivering the ruling, Magistrate Ndengeri observed that the accused was not remorseful for his action.
