Embu MCAs set to lose seats for absconding duty

A section of members of the Embu County assembly could lose their seats for failing to attend the assembly proceedings.

Embu Assembly Speaker Kariuki Mate says the MCAs have failed to attend 18 consecutive sittings while others only go to the chambers to get sitting allowance before leaving.

Any MCA who failed to attend more than 8 consecutive assembly sittings now faces the risk of losing their elective seats unless they give valid reasons for absconding duty.

Letters have so far been sent to MCAs who have missed up to 8 sittings summoning them before the House Rules, Privileges and Business Committee to explain why they have been missing sittings.

Kariuki said that some members have missed up to 18 sittings which has continued to affect the performance of the assembly in terms of legislation.
