Embu shoe shiners storm CDF offices over shades

Shoe shiners based in Embu town on Tuesday, September 27 stormed the Manyatta Constituency Development Funds (CDF) office accusing the area Member of Parliament, John Muchiri, of misappropriating funds meant for construction of shades.

The agitated youth accused Muchiri of constructing one shade at a cost of Ksh 1 million and later giving it to unknown members.

Led by their Secretary, Francis Kinyua Njiru, the shoe shiners returned one of the shades donated the CDF committee saying that the MP failed to involve them when constructing the same yet they are the end users.

Njiru said that they made a proposal to the CDF offices for Ksh 1 million funding to enable them construct shades only for the MP to construct one at the same cost.

Esbon Nyaga, a member of the group, accused MP Muchiri of trying to divide the shoe shiners who have been operating as a group and cultivating a culture of tribalism.

Nyaga said that as shoe shiners, they will not be used by leaders who are propagating ethnic division among communities.

However, Manyatta CDF manager, David Kinyua, dismissed the allegations saying that said the proposal was authored by the group with intent to squander the cash.

He accused the shoe shiners of propagating falsehoods to tarnish the name of MP Muchiri.
