Embu Speaker blocks schools torching motion

Temporary Embu County Assembly Speaker, Ngari Makenge, has dismissed attempts by some of the County Assembly Members to discuss the countrywide school torching menace at the County Assembly claiming it is inconsequential to the county.

Addressing the County Assembly on Thursday, Makenge ruled that though MCAs were stakeholders in such schools, the issue did not directly affect Embu County to necessitate dedication of time at the Assembly to dissect the reasons for the arson attacks and formulation of possible solutions to the scourge.

Makenge told the Ward Representatives, who were pushing for the motion to be discussed, that though the matter was weighty, there were more grave issues in the region which were yet to be resolved and deserved more attention.

He also cautioned MCAs against attempts to usurp the role of the National Assembly.
