Embu supreme council of elders disown Governor Wambora

Embu council of elders, which is commonly referred to as “Nyangi Ndereri”, has disowned Embu Governor Martin Wambora and termed him as ungrateful, saying they are now reviewing their support for him.

Led by their chairman, Andrew Ireri, the elders said that the governor was thankless, despite their support during his two impeachments.

Ireri said the governor has been evading the elders every time they have sought an appointment with him, thus frustrating their efforts to present their grievances.

He further added that the elders have not been in good terms with other leaders in the county because they supported Wambora all through, an act they lament the governor repaid with ingratitude by failing to meet with them.

The elders have challenged the governor to come out and explain to them whether he plans to seek re-election, upon which they will make their stand known.

Ireri accused the governor of not making time to sit with the elders and address challenges affecting the county.

He further added that Wambora has shown that he is unable to solve issues of land and politics in the county.

They noted that their reasons for disowning Wambora were not monetary, rather their aim was to enable justice prevail within the county of Embu, where they argue people’s rights have been violated.

Wambora was accused by Embu MCAs of flouting the County Government Act by appointing public servants without the assembly’s approval.

He was also accused of embezzling Ksh 35 million by purchasing maize seeds that never germinated, irregular procurement of vehicles and authorisation to renovate Embu Stadium at a cost of Ksh 50 million.

Wambora has been in court for over a year since a motion to impeach him successfully went through the Embu County assembly and the Senate, but was reinstated by the High Court.
