Embu tea farmers lament delay in bonus payments

Tea farmers in Embu County are planning protests at various factories to demand the release of bonuses from their tea harvests.

According to the farmers, they have been waiting for the bonuses in vain.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Jackline Wairimu, a farmer said the delay in the payment of bonuses has affected her since she had unsettled loans and children who need school fees.

The concern by tea farmers in Embu has prompted various committee members representing the tea farmers at buying centers to join them in seeking an explanation as to why they have not yet received their bonuses.

According to Stanley Munene, a representative, the management of tea factories have not given any reasons for withholding the bonuses, despite the good production.

Stanley said they would mobilise tea farmers to storm the various factories to demand the bonuses so that the farmers can meet their financial obligations.
