A 26-year-old high school teacher in Embu was on Monday charged with sexually assaulting a female student.

The suspect, who is a male teacher at DEB Kangaru Day Secondary School, was charged that on  September 30, 2018 at Gakwegori area in Embu West sub-county, he took advantage of his position and sexually assaulted one of his students aged 21.

He denied the charge before Principal Magistrate Samuel Mutai.

The student had reportedly gone to the teacher’s house to consult on an academic matter when the alleged incident occurred.

The court granted the accused a bond of Ksh.100,000 with surety of a similar amount.

He is set to appear before the court again on October 23, 2018.
