Emmanuel Adebayor Opens up About Family Affairs

In a lengthy post on his verified Facebook Page, the 31-year-old has accused his family of being ungrateful despite constantly supporting them, financially and otherwise.

He outlined his good will and support for the family from when he started playing professional football in tender the age of 17.

“At the age of 17, with my first wages as a footballer, I built a house for my family and made sure they were safe,” read the post in part.

He also points out that he let his mother on stage when he received the African Player of the Year Award to show his gratitude and went ahead to take her to London for medical checkups later that year.

Adebayor also accused his older sister, Yabo Adebayor, of leasing a house he had bought for USD1.2 million and allowed her and his half brother to stay in.

He also expresses his disappointment in his younger brother’s behaviour after he sponsored him to a football academy.

“When I was in Monaco I thought it would be good to have a family of footballers. So I made sure my brother Rotimi gets into a football academy in France.” he explained.

“Within a few months, out of 27 players he stole 21 phones.”

Demand for houses and monthly wage

Despite the support, the player says his family has been abusing him and demanding that he buys them houses and pays them a monthly wage.

 “I organised a meeting in 2005 to solve family issues. When I asked them about their opinion, they said I should build each family member a house and give each of them a monthly wage.”

Emmanuel Adebayor’s football career has been in turmoil, with his current club Tottenham giving him days off regularly to sort out if family woes. The striker has so far made 17 league appearances this season, scoring only two goals.
