Environment PS Allows Charcoal Burning From Mathenge Tree

Speaking at Michinda Primary School in Ndaragwa Constituency, Nyandarua County where he was officially handing over the green school Programme Lesiyampe said that this was because the government had failed to eradicate the problem.

The PS added that the government has however launched a massive program to reduce Mathenge weed in Marigat Division where charcoal will be burned in the next 30 days.

Lesiyampe further noted that this falls wholly on the County and no concerted effort is required.

The Green Schools and Commercial Tree growing for green economy programme was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 with an objective of inculcating and empowering pupils and students on the need to conserve the environment and establishment of school based forestry clubs in all schools geared towards promotion of sound, suitable and long term environmental economy.

Also present was the Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Francis Waweru Nderitu and his Nyandarua counterpart Eng. Muriuki Karue.
