Equity announces 2000 scholarships for gifted students

Equity Bank has today (Wednesday) announced 2000 wings to fly comprehensive scholarships for secondary schools that will be offered to deserving students in 2016.

The bank further added that the scholarship would consider students who will be within the 5th percentile in their districts with over 350 marks and from poor backgrounds.

They further emphasized that only those students who would not afford to pay for their secondary school education because of extreme financial challenges will be shortlisted and interviewed for the scholarships.

“Among the qualifying factors include: children who have lost one or both parents and have no relative or guardian or sponsor to provide for their secondary education, children whose parents are physically or mentally challenged and are unable to educate their children and have no relative or guardian or sponsor to provide for their secondary education, children whose parents are living with HIV/AIDS or other chronic debilitating illness and are unable to educate their children and have no relative or guardian or sponsor to provide for their secondary education, children from families affected by natural disasters such as flooding, drought, and famine or civil conflict and are unable to educate their children and have no relative or guardian or sponsor to provide for their secondary education, children who have suffered neglect and/or abandonment and have no relative or guardian or sponsor to provide for their secondary education and children with parents living under extreme poverty and have no relative or guardian or sponsor to provide for their secondary education,” read the statement.

Candidates have also been advised to fill in their application form, attach their 2015 KCPE result slip and return them to the nearest Equity Bank Branch latest by Wednesday, 6th of January 2016.

Shortlisted pupils will then be invited for interviews which will be conducted by the District Scholarship Selection Board that comprises of key personalities in the district and is chaired by the County Education Director or District Education Officer (DEO).

“The Wings to Fly program scholarships caters for school fees, pocket money, shopping, books and uniform for the four year education and is in program of Equity Bank The MasterCard Foundation and Equity Group Foundation,” read the statement.
