Erect monument at Kapedo, Turkana elders urge gov’t

Elders at Kapedo in Turkana County have requested the county government in collaboration with the national government to erect a monument at the spot where 22 police officers alongside three civilians were killed.

The elders were speaking on Saturday afternoon at Kasarani in Kapedo, Turkana East sub county during a meeting with Teso elders who had gone there on a tour to pay tribute to their sons who were among the police officers who lost their lives.

During the meeting, Turkana East Sub County administrator Titus Ekiru lauded the slain policemen saying that through their heroic death calm, peace and security has prevailed in the area, something that the county government and the national government cannot ignore.

“The government should not forget them, I request both the county and the national government to erect a monument at the cursed dried up Ewoi tree so that the gallant soldiers will always be remembered because they died while in the line of duty trying to serve their country.

“Kapedo Lokori road, which was previously dangerous and impassable, is now safe and peaceful,” said Ekiru.

Nadome sub location chief told the meeting that nothing grows in that area, further attributing the drying of the ‘Ewoi’ Acacia tree to the bloodshed.

The elders made traditional prayers and performed rites to curse the spot and sanctify it spiritually.
