Eric Omondi, Willy Paul, Nyashinki videos most popular on YouTube

Gospel singer Willy Paul and comeback maestro Nyashinski are the only Kenyan musicians featuring in this year’s “most watched” videos on YouTube according to search giant Google.

Comedian Eric Omondi’s satirical “How to be…” clips and music parody videos take up a staggering four slots on the top ten “most viewed non-music videos” list.

The stats, as revealed by Google show that a large number of Kenyans prefer foreign songs as opposed to local sounds, with Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of you” topping the list of most watched music videos in Kenya, followed closely by “I Do”, Willy Paul’s collabo with Jamaican songstress Alaine.

Nyashinki’s “Malaika” is third on the list, closing out Kenya’s only representatives.

A video of President Kenyatta doing a jig with celebrated dance group, FBI, tops the list of the most watched non-music videos in Kenya.

Internationally, however, ‘Despacito’ video by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee edged out Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ with 4.4 billion views, as opposed to the latter’s 2.8 billion.

According to Google, the criteria for coming up with the list was based on time “spent watching, sharing, commenting, liking, and more.”
