Esipisu: Investigations Into Mandera, Wajir Attacks Underway

State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu has said heavily armed bandits raided a quarry workers’ camp at Koromey area outside Mandera town at around 2am killing 36 civilians.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, Esipisu says survivors talk of being attacked by about 20 armed bandits, who are believed to be al shabaab militants.

He says 3 masked gunmen also stormed Ngamia club in Wajir town shooting randomly and killed one person before being repulsed by security forces.

13 others injured in the incident are being treated.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta has summoned top security chiefs; Inspector General of Police David Kimayo, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku, defence forces boss Julius Karangi and National Intelligence Service Director General Philip Kameru to State House over the killings.

A comprehensive statement will be issued by Lenku after the meeting.
