Eugene Wamalwa headed to Cabinet after Parliamentary approval

Former Cabinet Minister Eugene Wamalwa is back to the Cabinet.

This is after the National Assembly unanimously approved his appointment to cabinet as the newly created Water and Irrigation docket Cabinet Secretary.

The National Assembly reconvened on Tuesday and top of the agenda was the vetting of Mr Wamalwa.

Mr Wamalwa was nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta in mid-April to take over the newly created docket.

The Water department was initially under the Ministry of Water, Environment and Natural Resources under Prof Judy Wakhungu.

According to the Constitution, the Cabinet Secretary is “nominated and with approval of the National Assembly, appointed by the President.”

Wamalwa is making a return to the Cabinet after more than two years in the cold, having last served as the Justice and Constitutional Affair Minister during the Mwai Kibaki-led coalition government.
