Events 2016: Collapse of Chase Bank

How safe is your money in a Kenyan bank? This question was brought to the surface after various banks went under in 2016 with the collapse of Chase Bank arguably the most shocking.

Meanwhile depositors at imperial bank continue to get their money back in bits more than a year after the bank was placed under receivership. Verified depositors have now been given access to up to a maximum of 10 percent of their remaining deposits, subject to a minimum of 200, 000 shillings or the actual deposit amount for balances below 200, 000.

Denis Otieno recollects the aftermath of the fall of Chase Bank and lessons learnt by the regulator, the central bank of Kenya.
