Ex-Garsen MP Danson Mungatana arrested at a Nairobi hotel

Ex-Garsen MP Danson Mungatana has been arrested at a Nairobi hotel over allegations of obtaining money by false pretence.

According to a police report seen by Citizen Digital, officers from Military Police Unit at the Department of Defence (DOD) received complaints from a woman identified as Everlyne Njoki.

“The lady said that a person who introduced himself as a Senior Military Officer at D.O D in charge of tenders had given them the documents and said that he was in a position to help them win a Ksh. 70 million cereals and building tender. The said person requested to be given a down payment of Ksh. 1million and which was handed to him on 14/7/2020,” the police report reads.

Ms. Njoki is said to have scrutinised the documents and found them to be fake.

She told the military police unit that they had met with Mr. Mungatana and another man who identified himself as Collins Paul Waweru.

It is alleged Mr. Mungatana was introduced to her and her colleague as as the senior person pushing for the tenders at DOD.

The meeting is said to have taken place at Sagret Hotel in Nairobi where the two men apparently demanded for Ksh.1million for the deal to go through.

“It’s at this point that the complainant and the two ladies got suspicious and informed the Military Police personnel who in turn requested our action,” the police report adds.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations  (DCI) rushed to the scene and arrested Mr. Mungatana and Mr. Waweru.

As at the time of publishing this article, the two were recording statements at the DCI office in Kilimani.
