Ex-Homa Bay County official arrested over Ksh.1.4M missing containers

A former Homa Bay County government official and a roads inspector have been arrested over the loss of two containers belonging to a Mombasa-based shipping company worth Ksh.700,000 each.

Former county Chief Officer in the Department of Roads Chris Agong’ and roads inspector John Paul Otieno were arrested on Monday evening by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Homa Bay.

The two are accused of being behind the disappearance of the containers said to have gone missing between May 2017 and April 2018.

According to Homa Bay County Police Commander Esther Seroney, investigations had revealed that the containers were stolen when Mr. Agong’ was still in office.

The two are being detained at Homa Bay Police Station awaiting arraignment on Tuesday.
