Ex-Kenya Power boss Ben Chumo set to take over at SRC
- Chumo's tenure at the helm of KPLC expired on January 6, 2017.
- He was dealt a major blow after a court issued orders prohibiting renewal of his tenure.
- However, two months later, he was appointed as chairman of the Egerton University Council.
Ben Chumo has been nominated to serve as chairman of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
A parliamentary approval is however required for the former Kenya Power MD to take over from Sarah Serem who’s term expired in December last year.
Chumo’s tenure at the helm of KPLC expired on January 6, 2017 after having served as managing director for three years.
He was dealt a major blow after the Employment and Labour Relations Court issued orders prohibiting renewal of his tenure.
Activist Okiya Omtatah challenged renewal of his contract citing that Dr. Chumo had attained the retirement age of 60.
Two months later, he was appointed as chairman of the Egerton University Council.
On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta also nominated former Meru Woman Rep Florence Kajuju to chair the Commission of Administrative Justice (CAJ).
Lucy Ndung’u, who previously served as the Registrar of Political Parties has also been proposed as a member of the CAJ alongside Washington Sati.
The three are to be vetted within 21 days and the report presented to the National Assembly by two committees that will review the candidates.
They are the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee as well as the Finance Committee.
