Ex-LSK boss wants civil servants medical cover stopped

A former civil servant has asked the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to take away medical insurance cover for all counties and national government servants saying they enjoy covers worth millions of shillings while taxpayers are suffering at home due to lack of medical fees.

Former South Rift Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Chairman, Bernard Ng’etich, has asked the commission who spoke to the press in Kericho Town, said the public officers should seek medication in public hospitals and have a feel of what the mwananchi is going through.

Ng’etich reprimanded governors who sat in their comfort places while wananchi were dying due to lack of drugs following the ongoing doctors’ strike now in its 65th day.

Furthermore, he proposed that medical covers for all county officials starting with the governors, deputy governors, speakers of county assembly, be suspended until the doctors strike has been resolved.

He called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto to concentrate on resolving the doctors’ demands then after embark on mobilizing citizens on the on going Mass Voters Registration process that ends on February 14.

The former official said it was unfair for Jubilee leaders to brush off the medics strike while during 2013 campaigns, President Kenyatta swore to protect Kenyan lives, but in reality they are exploiting poor Kenyans who are now dying due to lack of medical services.
