Ex-MP freed after weeks in police custody

Former Eldoret South Member of Parliament, Peris Simam, has secured her freedom after paying a fine of 6.2 million shillings slapped against her by an Eldoret Court.

Simam was found guilty over 10 corruption related charges.

She, together with her husband, Enoch Kimeli, had been accused of illegally awarding more than 4.5 million shillings  worth of road contracts to her company – Kachur Holdings.

The duo were charged alongside four others; Shachile Mikoya Laban, Maluti Pamela Maluti, John Simiyu Khaemba and Wisdom Kimutai Maina.

The four were fined 850,000 shillings each or face six-and-a-half year imprisonment.
