Ex-Mungiki members urged to register as voters

Othaya Member of Parliament, Mary Wambui, has urged the youth to register as voters in numbers so as to ensure President Uhuru Kenyatta is re-elected when Kenya goes to the ballot on August 8, 2017.

Ms Wambui also urged elected leaders and aspirants to up their game by mobilizing eligible voters in their areas to register during the ongoing voter listing exercise, saying that this will be the only sure way for people to register in large numbers.

Elsewhere, Mathira parliamentary seat aspirant, Rigathi Gachagua, has called on former Mungiki sect members to register as voters.

He said that there has been fear amongst them that their fingerprints may be taken during voter registration and used by law enforcers to track them due to their past record.

He assured them that their details are strictly for the electoral process.

He said that since most of them had reformed and denounced the group, the government has no business tracking them down.
