Ex-Nairobi County Secretary Dr. Robert Ayisi succumbs to COVID-19 complications

Former Nairobi County official Dr. Robert Ayisi has succumbed to COVID-19 complications, his family confirmed on Thursday morning.

Dr. Ayisi was previously admitted at the Mater Hospital in Nairobi for treatment.

The deceased served as Nairobi County Secretary during former Governor Evans Kidero’s tenure at City Hall, where he replaced Lilian Ndegwa who had been sacked following corruption allegations

Prior to his January 2016 appointment by then Governor Kidero, Dr. Ayisi served as Nairobi City Council’s Medical Health officer from 2009-2014 before being appointed Health Chief Officer in July 2014.

Current Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on Monday forced to eat a humble pie after he took to social media to post a fake death alert of Dr. Ayisi which was later dismissed by his family as he was still alive at the time.

Sonko, in the now retracted post, said Dr. Ayisi will “be remembered for his role in streamlining the health sector in Nairobi County.”
