Ex-President Moi mourns pupil Biwott

Retired President Daniel Arap Moi has mourned the death of his long time friend and student, the former Cabinet Minister Nicholas Kipyator Biwott.

The bonding of their ties started in the 1940s when Moi was the principal of Tambach Intermediate School and Nicholas Biwott his pupil.

Later, Biwott’s baby steps towards achieving political greatness in the government faction were inducted by his appointment as Moi’s Under Secretary in Ministry of Home Affairs during Jomo Kenyatta’s regime.

Ever since, Moi elevated Biwott’s  status from one Ministry to the next.

He served as the Minister of State (1979-1982) before Moi appointed him as the Cabinet Minister for Regional Development.

He was later reinstated as Minister of Energy in 1983 then Minister of East African and Regional Co-operation and CS of Trade and Industry before he decided to delve his concentration in business.

In spite various scandals that Biwott was involved in during Moi’s  24-year rule, their friendship has since surpassed the storm.

The Retired President eulogised his friend in arms, describing him as a dedicated public servant, an astute businessman, a philanthropist and a dependable friend.

He recognised Biwott as a reigning leader from the Rift Valley region who will forever be reminisced by his people.
